Pull up.
The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards held their virtual ceremony on Sunday evening (August 30) at various locations in New York City. The event was hosted by Keke Palmer.
Opening up the show in his signature red blazer and wounds, The Weeknd took to the Edge at Hudson Yards and performed “Blinding Lights”, before lighting up the skyline with fireworks. XO was nominated for six awards, and took home both Best R&B and Video Of The Year with “Blinding Lights“.
Elsewhere, DaBaby, who was nominated for three awards, pulled up to a stage filled with special effects and backdrops. Accompanied by dance crew the Jabbawockees, DaBaby ran through “Peep Hole” and “Blind” while handcuffed to a police car, before breaking free for “Rockstar” in a burning city.
Afar away from Planet Her, Doja Cat, who won Best New Artist, introduced herself as a MTV News host for her out-of-this-world performance. Donning a futuristic catsuit, Doja electrified the show with a performance of “Say So” followed by “Like That“, and an epic dance finale.
Other wins throughout the evening included Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage” crowned as Best Hip-Hop, H.E.R.’s “I Can’t Breathe” winning the Video For Good award, and Machine Gun Kelly taking the Best Alternative with his “Bloody Valentine“. Congrats!
